The 5 coolest wedding venues in Derbyshire

Owner Sarah outside Haarlem Mills, one of the beautiful venues mentioned below.

Derbyshire has an array of gorgeous wedding venues to choose from, including stately homes, ruined abbeys, vintage barns and amazing outdoor spaces.

Choosing a wedding venue is probably the biggest thing (after the engagement) to get sorted. Once you have the venue, everything else feeds off that.

The type of flowers you choose also has to work with your space- are you going for a more relaxed barn type setting and are looking for pampas grasses and autumnal shades? Or are you going for a more sophisticated setting, such as a country estate, and you therefore might want your flowers to be simple, chic and contemporary?

We’ve rounded up our current favourite selection of the COOLEST, and by that we mean, striking, different, impressive (all key words for us as we feel they apply to us as well!) venues, where you can have the day of your dreams.

  1. Grangefields, Long Lane, Derbyshire

The stunning ceremony room at Grangefields

A stunning new wedding venue that features options including red brick outdoor courtyard, oak roofed ceremony room, open fires and a dutch barn with an open kitchen. Think hog roasts, pizza ovens, roaring fires, candles and loads and loads of atmosphere!

For us, Grangefields is the perfect mix of character (including loads of gorgeous details) and modernity, being very newly renovated. Its a really special place, nestled in the middle of some seriously gorgeous countryside.

2. Haarlem Mills, Derby Road, Wirskworth, Derbyshire

The view from outside Haarlem Wedding Venue showing the whole of the historic mills complex

Okay, so we have to confess we are a bit biased here because our studio is based in the building next door, part of the same incredible mill buildings that were built in the 18th Century. We feel very blessed to work in such an historically stunning building, and you’ll feel that way too about Haarlem Mills Wedding venue.

Set just outside of the lovely little market town of Wirksworth (known as the Gem of the Peak because of how lovely this little Peak District town is), the setting is absolutely lovely. Plus your guests will have plenty of gorgeous AirBNB options in the local town. WIrksworth is the perfect spot to turn the wedding into a weekend of other activities such as walking, hiking, swimming in local water holes or hitting up some of the perfect little local pubs.

Haarlem venue itself is a treasure trove of perfect photo opportunities, from the top floor ceremony room with its amazing red brick walls to the industrial look metal staircases outside that make for the perfect backdrop to your pictures.

3. The Hidden Hive, Swadlingcote, Derbyshire

The Hidden Hive Tipis lit up at night is a stunning sight

For a really one-of-a-kind experience for your wedding, we really recommend The Hidden Hive. A group of characterful tipi’s set in stunning countryside, that are brimming with a boho chic vibe.

Its the sort of venue where you can do whatever works for you, bringing in your own props and styling, doing as much of the dressing as you like, they’ll even let you in the day before the spend as much time as you need getting the venue ready for your special day.

This place really is crying out for a pampas explosion!

The venue has onsite camping and glamping available too so you can stumble back to your tent after a long night dancing the night away!

4. Callow Hall, Ashbourne, Derbyshire

The glass extension at Callow Hall has transformed the building

It doesn’t get more luxurious than Callow Hall. Set in the middle of some stunning countryside, the recently full renovated country house, has been extended to have the most stunning glass dining room at the back.

The furnishings are best described as understated opulence and the whole place is so thoughtfully decorated, you wont need much to make this venue look even more stunning.

Since this place is also a country house hotel, there are plenty of rooms for you and your guests to stay, but a little word of warning, you’ll have to dig deep into your pockets for that!

They also have their own chefs onsite to cook up some delicious local Derbyshire treats.

5. The West Mill, Darley Abbey, Derbyshire

The West Mill has a stunning location next to the river

Nestled in a lovely little area close to the river, brimming with lovely old historical mill buildings is The West Mill. It’s the perfect venue for its proximity to the city yet it feels like a million miles away with its perfect location on the banks of the river.

Lots of amazing photo opportunities inside and out, the venue is the perfect mix of old and new. Lots of characterful areas, red brick walls and a stunning vaulted ceiling.
