Advice to help you choose your wedding floral style

Some couples know exactly what floral look they want. When we start those initial conversations, they are able to immediately talk about the look, the colours and the style that they would like. Oftentimes these couples already have an array of images that they have gathered that tell a story of the look they would like.

But, more often, couples reach out to us with a very vague idea, sometimes just a colour they like, or a flower they don’t like, and we take it from there.

Our job is to take someone’s idea and push it to the next level, to expand upon their likes (and avoid their dislikes) and make something truly sensational for them, for their special day and beyond.

We’ve put together some concepts and ideas that might help you to figure out which floral style you would like for your wedding.

We’ve broken these ideas down into four categories. Maybe one of these groups will sing to you and tell you that is the look you should go for, or maybe our images will help to inspire you.

Bright, fun and fearless

Are you fun and energetic with a bold idea about who you are?

Our first floral group is all about colourful dried flowers, rainbow palettes and is inspired by wildflower meadows bursting with colours.

Dried flowers come in so many colours now, you really do have the choice of pretty much any shade, any colour.

Lately we have been seeing a strong trend towards bouquets that have a summer wildflower, foraged look. Bouquets that are relaxed in shape and style, colours that are bold and playful.

At Horseshoe Flowers we pride ourselves on creating stunning complementary colour palettes. We have a design history that dates back over 15 years for creating colour palettes. When Sarah, our founder, worked in New York in the fashion design world, she spent countless hours creating colour palettes for some of the biggest names in fashion from high end brands like Armani all the way through to high street brands like Gap. Specialising in knitwear, she designed stripe and pattern layouts using these colour palettes. So, Sarah knows a thing or two about which colours go perfectly together, and she applies this knowledge to her dried flower colour combinations.

Dried flowers come in many colors, even ones that you might struggle to get with fresh flowers. The additional bonus of choosing dried flowers is that there are minimal seasonal limitations to what colours you can have at any specific time of the year. So go crazy with your choices, we will help you make those colours work together!

Girly and pretty

Are you getting ready for that ultimate in princess vibes? Look no further than stunning pink preserved roses.

Preserved roses create the epitome of pretty and luxe glamour. Pair those roses back to a selection of pink dried flowers, pink preserved ruscus leaves and you’ll get yourself a bouquet to really wow your crowd.

We love to create tonal colour palettes, using lots and lots of different shades of the same colour together. Here we are creating a look with shades of pink but touches of ivory and white also complement the look.

Tasteful and timeless

For the ultimate message of contemporary and timeless luxury, look no further than roses and eucalyptus.

There’s a reason this look is so popular with our couples, and that is because it is total, timeless beauty. You’ll look back on your wedding flowers, sitting in pride of place in their vase in your home, with joy if you go with this beautiful combination.

Preserved roses are available in so many stunning shades, from simple and elegant ivory, right through the colour spectrum to dark ruby roses and even black.

Paired back with stunning foliage- and here there are also many option to choose from- stick with classic sage green eucalyptus cineri or try one of the other eucalyptus varieties such as populous, nicoli or stuartiana. Other suggestions are olive foliage and beech leaves… each offering a lovely natural movement to your bouquet.

On trend and cool

Are you interested in opting for something totally different and on-trend? Want to push the boundries and inspire your guests with a different floral approach?

Right now, the biggest trends we are seeing are rust accents- whether you are looking for autumnal tones of dried flowers mixed with foliage or touches of rust in a rose bouquet- remember you can pick beautiful shades for your roses including peach, orange and sand.

Monochrome combinations are big news right now! Enjoy tiny touches of black with stunning roses (our speciality!) or go for a dark and moody combination of natural tones with black accents. Both of these ideas are having major Instagram hits and will make your day super unique.

Ombre designs are having a moment and we’re here for it! Think shades of beautiful colour ranging from the palest tones all the way to the deepest. Or yellow tones all the way through a rainbow of delights to the darkest teals.

This trend works well on all your wedding flowers but especially well on an impactful floral cloud suspended from the ceiling. Go bold or go home, right?

We hope that this selection of ideas and themes inspires you for your wedding by suggesting ideas you may not have thought of, or making you think a little about the kind of people you are and how your ideas will come across to your guests. Whatever you chose, we are here to help you take your ideas up to the next level, so please do reach out for your complimentary colour palette and style direction. Happy wedding planning!
